2008-09 Art Classes Start Sept. 8th
At Paint, Paper,
Scissors our artists are encouraged to engage in
a variety of media. We feel that the more
students experience, the more confident they
become in themselves, and the more avenues for
creativity they encounter. Paint, Paper,
Scissors students are provided with a nurturing
environment that encourages self discovery and
self reliance. Children do receive step-by-step
instruction in each class but they are also
provided with ample time for “free art” or time
for personal freedom of expression. We believe
it is of utmost importance to encourage artists,
young and not so young, to express themselves
visually in their own manner. By providing the
tools and instruction on how to use these media,
we enable the creative cogs in these gifted
minds to turn ideas into masterpieces.

the world through books and computer
presentations then they will interpret what they
learn. During the course of the year, children
will be taught the basic elements of art and how
they apply to our creations. Our classes offer a

Drawing and Painting
1: Third, Fourth and Fifth Grade Students —
Thursdays 3:45 to 5:00 Instructor: Jill DiDianpaolo
At
Paint Paper Scissors we believe that drawing and
painting are a learned discipline. Our
professional classes involve students in art and
painting through books, presentations, and the
study of famous artists. We encourage our
students to practice, practice, practice the
various techniques we teach. Our subject matter
and media will vary, and may include drawing in
pencil, charcoal, and pastels. The class will
follow a natural progression from drawing to
painting.

Session 2: Up Close and Personal
Thursdays 5:00 to 6:15
November 6 thru December 18
(no class held on Thanksgiving Day)
In this workshop, artists study the works of Georgia O’Keefe. Our focus will be
on lines, shape, and abstract composition (or how to turn reality on its head).

end of the workshop. Fee is $65 for the full session. No previous experience is
necessary.
Storytelling Through Art: Ages 8 to 14
—
Mondays 4:14 to 5:15
Instructor: Marta Amezquita
Most
art tells stories. The story comes from the
artist’s perspective and experiences. Young
artists often create visual stories using life
themes important to them, but poems, beautiful
books, and great photographs can also inspire.
In this class, students will focus on creating
art that tells a story using the power of
language and images for inspiration and meaning.
